PH-Taiwan row affects Cebu manpower agency

10:02 AM May 17, 2013

A manpower recruitment  firm in Cebu has stopped processing the deployment of workers for Taiwan.
According to Alma Cutamora, Recruitment Officer of MIP International Manpower Services, they held off  processing  documents  of 21 applicants.
Taiwan has ordered a freeze on hiring Filipino workers after they rejected the apology sent by the Philippines through an emissary of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (Meco) Antonio Basilio.
The Philippines adheres to the One China policy but maintains cultural and commercial relations with the breakaway province of China through the Meco in Taipei. The row stemmed from the killing of a Taiwanese fisherman when Philippine. Coast Guard personnel fired on their fishing boat. (See related story on page page 8)/Correspondent Christine Emily L.
