Student allegedly commits suicide by jumping from school building

MANILA, Philippines—An 18-year-old student was killed after he allegedly jumped off a building inside the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde campus in Manila Thursday, police said.

Case investigator Police Officer 3 Cris Ocampo of Manila Police District’s Homicide Division said Multi Media Arts student Jefferson Tan jumped from the 11th floor of CSB’s Design and Arts Building around 3:20 p.m.

“May mga witnesses na nagsabi na nasa catwalk daw si Jefferson tapos bigla na lang tumalon,” Ocampo said, but refused to divulge initial information on what may have prompted Tan to allegedly commit suicide.

He said Tan was rushed to the Adventist Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.

Ocampo said he has not yet talked to Tan’s family as they were still “in a state of shock” over what happened.
