Explosion in Lamitan mayor’s house leaves 4 wounded
ZAMBOANGA CITY— Four campaign coordinators of Lamitan City Mayor Roderick Furigay were wounded in a bomb explosion Sunday night.
“We were having our coordinators’ meeting last night when we heard a blast outside our house. Suddenly we heard people shouting outside, we discovered four of our coordinators were injured,” Furigay told the INQUIRER by phone on Monday morning.
Initial police investigation revealed that an improvised bomb was hurled at the gates of Furigay’s house.
“It’s like a pillbox, two of my four coordinators are in critical condition. Maybe some debris hit my coordinators who were near the place where the bomb fell,” Furigay said.
“It had something to do with politics but I don’t want to name names this time,” he said.
Wounded were Melvin Tinguha, 22; Jay Ar Ferrer, 29; Christopher Umbac, 30; and Joemar Ignacio, 20.
The third-termer Furigay is running for vice mayor of Lamitan City under the Liberal Party. His wife Rose is eyeing to be her husband’s replacement.
