Cebu City deploys new garbage trucks
Even with ten newly acquired garbage trucks, the Department of Public Services (DPS) is still having difficulty with the volume of trash in Cebu City.
According to DPS head Engr. Dionisio Gualiza, some of the city’s 14 garbage trucks are occasionally under repair and has affected garbage collection in the city.
One of the old trucks got involved in a trouble in sitio Maracas, barangay Lahug when its brakes malfunctioned. Fortunately, no one was hurt as the driver safely maneuvered the truck to a stop.
Gualiza said they regularly check their trucks before they are deployed, but because of wear and tear, these trucks break down every now and then.
“Nikalit lang gyud to ug malfunction,” Gualiza said.

“Our trucks are now old. We are happy that there are new trucks,” Gualizo added.
When asked if the number of garbage trucks in the city are enough, Gualizo said they still need more.

Gualiza said that when the new trucks are deployed, they would have to temporarily halt the operations of the old ones for repair, that’s why they still need more.
Last Thursday, the Cebu City government formally turned over ten brand new Foton dump trucks to the DPS.
