Maguikay cagers secure lead

BARANGAY Maguikay edged Banilad, 76-74, last Friday for its 5th win in six games (5-1) and snared the early lead in the 19-U category of the 6th Mandaue City Mayor’s Cup-2013 basketball tournament at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

Maguikay led by single-digit in the first three quarters while the fourth featured several lead changes with the last at 74-all on Johner Espina’s booming triple in the final 25 seconds. In the return play, Banilad earned a costly turnover as Maguikay’s Carl Anthony Patindol canned the game-winning basket.

Patindol and Roger Natividad led Maguikay with 21 and 15 points, respectively while Royet Varga paced Banilad (4-1) with 23 points.  /Correspondent Dale Rosal
