Don Bosco bags 3 category titles in BRO football

Don Bosco recovered from a sluggish performance last Friday and hoisted three titles yesterday in the  resumption of the 2nd BRO Nationals Football Festival at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

Don Bosco (DB BRO 1999) won the Boys 15, Players 7 and Boys 11 crowns.

In the Boys 15, DB BRO 1999 took the title by winning all of its two games in the final round robin.

The champion team in a category that only had three brackets was decided by letting the top teams play in a single round robin format. The team with the most number of wins got the title.

After a 1-0 win against Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC), DB BRO 1999 took out the scalp of Subangdaku FC, 2-1, via a penalty shootout with the regulation ending scoreless.

The Subangdaku FC was manned by some members of the Philippine Under 14 otherwise known as the Little Azkals.

During the penalty shootout, Lawrence “Soysoy” Colina scored his first attempt for Subangdaku FC, which was answered with a goal by DB BRO 1999’s Angelo Ouano. With the match tied, Sebastian Chiong Patangan, who was suffering from a hamstring injury, bungled his chance for Subangdaku FC. Jun Rena gave DB BRO 1999 the title by successfully finding the back of the net during his attempt.

Subangdaku FC had a good run during the eliminations. It won, 3-0,  over Abellana National School (ANS) Pomeroy courtesy of Colina’s hatttrick, then logged a 1-0 win over Canduman scored by Patangan before scoring a 3-0 routing of University of San Carlos-Basic Education (USC-BED) paved by Shanden Vergara, Patangan and Keith Plotena and a 1-0 edging of Dipolog Academy courtesy of Patangan.

Patangan had no rest as he came from playing in the recently concluded Palarong Pambansa in Dumaguete.

In the Players 7, Don Bosco A squeaked past Talisay Razkals, 2-1, for the title, while DBTC brought home the Boys 11 title by also winning all of its matches in the final round robin.

DBTC defeated DB Victorias, 1-0, and SHS-AdC, 3-0.

ANS WINS BOYS 17

ANS-Pomeroy did not go home winless as it bagged the Boys 17 title with a 2-1 edging of Barili FC. ANS’ goals were scored by Mark Joseph Arranguez.

The Players 9 title was copped by Lahug Elementary, which also won all of its matches in the final round robin. The team prevailed over Consolacion, 1-0, via a penalty shootout, and thrashed Davao, 3-0.

The Executive 42, Boys 13 and Girls 17 were still being contested as of presstime. To be contested today are the Men’s Open and Ladies Open.
