NBI joins CHR in probe of Jonas Burgos disappearance

MANILA, Philippines—The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will join the Commission on Human Rights in conducting further investigation on the disappearance of activists Jonas Burgos.

“The NBI is tasked to give assistance to the CHR (Commission on Human Rights). The CHR is directed to continue with the probe. The NBI will assist the CHR and at the same time it will be doing its own probe,” Justice Secretary Leila De Lima told reporters.

On Thursday, De Lima will again meet with Mrs. Edita Burgos, mother of Jonas.

The Supreme Court tasked the DOJ and the NBI to provide protection to the Burgos family. At the same time, the high court also ordered the DOJ and the NBI to provide them with the security arrangements made with the Burgos family.

Burgos was allegedly abducted by the military on April 28, 2007 along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.
