Student pinned by truck

/ 03:01 AM April 24, 2013

A wayward cement mixer killed a 21-year-old coed and injured 8 others at a busy intersection in Quezon City at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The student, Marie Cherrie Inzon, 20, a student of Siena College, was pinned when the truck loaded with cement fell on its side and crashed on her and a passenger jeepney.

Truck driver, Reynaldo Guarte, 34, told police that the brakes of his cement mixer failed, which prompted him to drive it into a roadside excavation, hoping to stop the vehicle.

But the truck lost its balance, fell to the left and hit Inzon, who was standing near the excavation at the corner of Araneta and Del Monte Avenues.

Hurt were three other pedestrians and five passengers of the jeepney, who were taken to St. Luke’s Medical Center, the Philippine Orthopedic Hospital and the East Avenue Medical Center.
