Tutor survives exciting finish against Lee

CRISTY TUTOR survived a photo finish to win the 16-kilometer women’s crown of yesterday’s “Break the Silence Run 2013” at the Ayala Center Cebu’s The Terraces.

Kenyan James Mbei, on the other hand, cruised to an easy victory in the men’s side as he clocked 57 minutes and 35 seconds to emerge victorious.

While Mbei had an easy win, Tutor had to endure a tight race to the finish line with Joeyry Lee. When the dust cleared, Tutor came out on top as she clocked 1:22.58.080 against Lee’s 1:22.58.460.

Daisy Batac placed third with a time of 1:35.39.440.

Almost two minutes clear of Mbei was Michael Largo, who clocked  59:03. Jiboy Magbulugtong rounded off the top three with a time of 1:04.48.

Mary Joy Tabal showcased her prowess in the shorter 8k category as she topped the women’s race in 31:43.

The Andrin sisters, Cherry  (35:42) and Jhean (38:55), settled for second and third, respectively.

Joebert Carolino defeated Kenyan Francis Kakui to dominate 8k men’s side with a time of 27:37. The Kenyan  finished in 27:41 for second place while Adonis Singson grabbed the third spot with a time of 28:03.

In the 4k race, Robert Daang and Carla Cosep emerged winners.

Daang clocked  14:27 to take the men’s crown while Cosep finished in 18:01 to rule the women’s race.

Jezreel Baguio placed second with a time of 16:40 while Victor Monsanto settled for third (18:15).

Aireen Algono placed second in the women’s race with a time of 27:31 while Eunice Uy placed third (27:54).

More than a thousand runners joined the race, organized by the Gualandi Volunteer Service Programme, Inc, a foundation that protects and campaigns for the prevention of deaf and mute sexual abuse in the country.

Proceeds of the race will be used in establishing a sustainable deaf-child sexual abuse prevention program. It will also help strengthen the organization’s existing and future volunteers.
