AGOO, La Union, Philippines—There will never come a time when Vice President Jejomar Binay will face the dilemma of having to endorse a lone candidate during a rally.

“Ang Presidente pumunta sa probinsya na ang kasama niya isa lang–ngayon lang ako nakakita ng ganyan,” he told reporters in an interview in Agoo, La Union on Friday, referring to the Team PNoy sortie in Iloilo which only had in attendance President Benigno Aquino III and one candidate, Jamby Madrigal.

“Pambihirang mangyari yun. Si Jamby lang? Hindi pa nangyayari at hindi mangyayari sa akin yan,” said Binay.

He said that none of the three leaders of the opposition (Binay, former President Joseph Estrada, and Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile) even had to be in any of UNA’s rallies to draw mammoth crowds.

He said that the chances of them being present during sorties have become smaller since “si Manong Johnny (Enrile) mataas ang presyon sa mata at hindi makatagal sa ilaw, si Erap (Estrada) naman ay kandidato.”

“Kaya si Jojo Binay na lang ang natitira,” he said.

But while Binay was busy with his duties as Vice President and cannot be in every province that the opposition visits, he told the media “basta’t pipilitin kong makasama.”

Binay remarked at Team PNoy’s low crowd turnout during rallies, saying “kahit wala kami ang pagsalubong at pagpapakita ng suporta ng ating mga kababayan ay maliwanag pa sa araw.”

The UNA leader said he expects a large amount of votes for their senatorial bets come election day from northern Luzon since many of them came from the region.

“Andito yung mga malakas talaga sa norte, taga Isabela ako. Si Manong Johnny, Cagayan yon. Siguro basis ito sa sobra naming kumpyansang malaki ang botong makukuha namin dito,” Binay said.

But with limited time left to campaign, he said that they were stepping up their activities and sought to add, if possible, more rallies to their schedule.

“Nagagalit nga ako kay Nancy kapag nasa bahay (tinatanong ko) bakit nandito ka?” he said in jest.
