HERMIGILDO Betonio III became the mayor of Pio V. Corpus town in Masbate after Mayor Diomedes Amaroto resigned in December 2011 citing health reasons. Betonio was the town’s vice mayor. He is now the local Liberal Party standard bearer.

Betonio was unsuccessful when he ran for vice mayor of Pio V Corpus town in 2007. He won in 2010 after he teamed up with Amaroto in 2010.

Betonio’s rise to the top was considered a setback to Masbate Gov. Rizalina Seachon-Lanete. Her son, Jesi Howard Lanete, lost to Amoroto in the 2010 elections.
