CEBU CITY—Police are hunting the adopted son of Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez for allegedly shooting an employee of a car repair shop in Talisay, Cebu, on Friday.

Joavan Fernandez allegedly shot Eduardo Basillote Largo Jr., 36, at past midnight after Largo refused to give the phone number of Jun Causon, owner of DanRyan Marketing Car Shop in Barangay San Isidro, Talisay, some 12 kilometers south of here.

Supt. Elmer Lim, chief of the Talisay police, said he ordered his men to look for Joavan to answer the allegation, as he urged Largo to file charges against the mayor’s son. “Nobody is above the law,” he said.

Joavan has had several brushes with the law. He has been accused of killing a jeepney driver, beating up vulcanizing shop workers and firing at gasoline station attendants, among others.

But the cases against him did not prosper because either witnesses did not testify or complainants withdrew the charges.

The elder Fernandez said he is willing to surrender his son.
