Junk collector hurt by grenade blast in Pangasinan

MANILA, Philippines—A bottle collector from Pangasinan was hurt when the grenade he was allegedly trying to disassemble exploded early Thursday, police said.

Senior Inspector Ryan Manongdo, Pangasinan police spokesman, said the explosion happened on Arellano Street in Binalonan, Pangasinan at10:35 a.m.

In a separate interview, case investigator Police Officer 3 Francis Ido said the blast victim Roderick Ramos was sorting the used bottles he had collected from houses when he saw the hand grenade in one of his sacks.

“Dini-disassemble niya para makakuha ng bronze na makikita sa loob ng granada ( He was trying to take apart the grenade so he could get the bronze part inside) ,” Ido said, but added that the grenade exploded even before he was able to open it.

Ramos sustained hand and leg injuries and was rushed to the Urdaneta District Hospital for medical treatment.
