Teener falls into cave pit, dies

A 16-YEAR-OLD boy died after accidentally falling into a cave pit in Tabuelan town, northern Cebu at past 5 a.m yesterday.

Police said Bryan Caballero Ere of barangay Cantubaon went hunting for bats with his father Elmer and uncle Roldan Caballero inside the cave when he slipped and fell into the ravine.

Bryan was busy looking for bats and didn’t notice the hole, said police.

A search and rescue team managed to locate an unconscious Bryan in the middle of the cave, about 200 meters deep.

It took them 10 hours to retrieve the victim’s body, saidInsp. Roberto Hugo, Tabuelan police chief.

The boy, who sufffered serious multiple head injuries, was brought to the hospital but was declared dead by the attending doctor.

“Nasangit ni siya sa tunga. Nasangit pud ni siya sa bato sa kilid (He got stuck midway in the rocks on the side),” Hugo added.

Bryan’s family hunts bats for food and only brought flashlights with them.
