UV continues winning ways

THE UNIVERSITY of the Visayas (UV) continued its assault in the 16-under Division A of the 2013 ThreeSixty Pharmacy Cup-Cebu Youth Basketball League 6 as it put  several wins in the games over the weekend at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) basketball courts along Mango Avenue.

The Baby Lancers beat Don Bosco A, 71-48, before whooping Abellana National School, 64-29, to nearly complete a sweep of their preliminary round assignments with a clean 4-0 (win-loss) record.

The Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons followed up their win over SHS-AdC with a 36-27 win over DB A for a 3-1 mark. SHS-AdC bounced back with a 66-29 win over ANS for their third win in five games.

In the 13-under Division A, SHS-AdC-A tied UV at the top as it defeated SHS-AdC-B, 87-42, and DBTC-A to streak to a 5-0 record.

CEC-A also scored two wins to hold on to third place. The Baby Dragons (4-2) ousted USJR-A, 55-30, before toppling SHS-AdC-B, 62-22. USC is at fourth place at 3-2 with one game remaining against UV. The last semifinal match-ups will be decided after the UV-USC and UV-SHS-AdC-A games this week.

Meanwhile, the University of San Carlos (USC) North leads the cast in the 10-under division with a 5-1 card heading to the semifinal round.

USC North will be taking on sister squad, USC South while SHS-AdC battles the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) in the next round.

In Division B games of the Under 13 age group, CEC-B downed Forum, 52-24 and DBTC-C, 43-19. SWU stopped DBTC-B, 34-20. Forum trounced USJR-B, 46-9. Guest team Thumbs Up defeated DBTC-B, 59-34. In Under 16 Division B action, UV-B outscored Thumbs Up, 57-54, while USC South-B beat USJR-B, 35-22. DBTC-B dropped USJR-B, 73-30. SHS-AdC 2 outran SWU, 47-33.

The semifinals will be played this weekend. The tournament is composed of 50 teams spread over four age groups: Under 10, 13, 16 and 19. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
