Tight security set for Edsa anniversary rites

MANILA, Philippines—More than 1,000 policemen will be deployed on Monday to secure the celebration of the 27^th anniversary of the Edsa People Power revolution.

Philippine National Police Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr. said Friday that the policemen would be stationed at the People Power Monument on Edsa and the areas immediately surrounding it.

The monument will serve as the center of the Edsa anniversary activities which has the theme ‘’Pilipinas Natin, Abot Tanaw Na!’’

Cerbo said the celebration will be highlighted by the “Salubungan” that will start in front of the PNP’s National Headquarters in Camp Crame, and at Gate 3 of Camp Aguinaldo, with the respective participants marching and converging at the People Power Monument.

President Aquino III, together with Cabinet members, senators, congressmen, and local government officials will lead the flag-raising ceremony, followed by a wreath-laying rites.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, meanwhile, announced it would impose a traffic rerouting scheme in the area during the three-day celebration starting on Saturday, Feb. 23.
