Davao City suspends classes due to bad weather
DAVAO CITY, Philippines—Mayor Sara Duterte called off classes from the pre-school to the high school levels Tuesday as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration placed 18 provinces in Mindanao, including Davao province, under storm alert as tropical depression “Crising” continues to bear on Mindanao.
“In view of the Pagasa advisory expecting moderate to heavy rainfall in the city due to tropical depression Crising, classes from preschool to high school are suspended on February 19,” said an advisory from City Hall’s city information office.
Duterte left to school authorities and employers the discretion to suspend classes in college and post graduate levels; and work schedules.
As of 6 a.m., no change was discernible in the level of water in the city’s major rivers although the emergency crews were on alert for a possible deterioration of the weather.
