MANILA, Philippines – Justice Secretary Leila De Lima assured on Monday that they will not play politics in resolving the complaint against Pagadian City Mayor Samuel Co, who is running for Congress under President Benigno Aquino III’s Liberal Party.

Co is facing complaints for syndicated estafa before the Department of Justice (DoJ) in connection with the pyramiding scheme involving Aman Futures Group.

“Dapat maintindihan ng tao na may mandato ang DOJ (People should understand the DOJ has a mandate). We always shield ourselves from partisan influence,” De Lima told reporters in a chance interview.

Some of the victims in what is known as the biggest Ponzi scheme in the country are reportedly worried that Co will be favored by the DOJ being a partymate of the President.
