A new way of coping with floods

Better late than never.

To fight the floods, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is launching today (Wednesday) its Flood Control Information Center (FCIC)—a day after heavy rains submerged parts of the metropolis.

The center will collate information on flooding in Metro Manila and “provide crucial information needed to make policy decisions in crisis situations,” MMDA Chair Francis Tolentino said.

The MMDA has installed 70 closed circuit television cameras at key intersections and other points “so we can plot incidents, what response we have done and what further measures we need to do,” FCIC head Mon Santiago said.

The information generated will eventually be made available to the public to guide them on what to do during emergencies, he said.
