Sleeping boy hit by stray bullet in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines—A 13-year-old boy was hit late Saturday night by a stray bullet while he was sleeping inside his home in Quezon City.

The bullet, which had allegedly been fired by his neighbor, pierced the boy’s right arm. The teenager was brought to the Far Eastern University Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation (FEU-NRMF) Hospital for treatment.

The alleged shooter Joseph Haldos, 42, a driver of Ilang-Ilang Street, Pingkian 3, in Barangay (village) Pasong Tamo, fled after he was spotted by the victim’s mother wielding the firearm. He is the subject of a police hunt.

PO3 Jovy Pobre, of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Talipapa station, said the incident happened around 10 p.m. Saturday inside the boy’s home along Ilang-Ilang Street.

Pobre said that the victim’s mother, Jocelyn Quebec, was busy with chores when she heard gunfire coming from outside her home. She then heard her son, who was sleeping on his bed, cry out in pain.

Quebec then found her 13-year-old son’s arm covered in blood. When she took a peek outside the window, she told police investigators that she saw Haldos standing outside with a handgun.

Pobre said that Haldos, apparently realizing he had been seen, fled bringing with him the gun. Quebec immediately took her son to the nearest hospital for treatment.
