MANILA, Philippines—Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano is seeking a parallel audit of the Senate funds by the Commission on Audit with either a private or “independent people’s” audit.

Cayetano, in a press conference on Friday, said he would file on Monday a resolution calling for a parallel audit of the Senate funds.

Cayetano  specifically wanted  to find  out  how  Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile  liquidated  the P250,000 that he gave each   senator last December as well as the  more than P500 million  additional  maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOEs)  allotted for the Senate  Secretariat in 2012.

Enrile, he said, should explain for instance how the P180 million travel allowance under the P500 million budget  was spent by the Senate.
