Enrile’s chief of staff Gigi Reyes tenders resignation
MANILA, Philippines—Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile’s chief of staff, who was dragged into the controversy over the P2.2 million funds he gave to senators last year, tendered her resignation but Enrile rejected it, a staff member said Wednesday night.
“Atty. Gigi Reyes submitted her letter of resignation but Senate President Enrile did not accept it,” said Lizette Nepomoceno, Enrile’s staff member, in a text message to reporters.
The resignation came just hours after Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano delivered a privilege speech where he attacked Reyes for allegedly acting like a senator, joining and speaking at their caucuses.
Cayetano said that for every lie that Enrile would say against him, he would have 100 “truths” about the Senate leader and his chief of staff.
Cayetano’s tirades against Reyes was an apparent retaliation to the latter, who called the minority leader a ‘hypocrite” for complaining about the P2.2 million funds that Enrile gave to his allies last year.
