BJMP NegOr gets P.5M for TB treatment facility

THE Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Negros Oriental has secured a P500,000 funding for the construction of infirmary facilities in the province.

Due to the increase of tuberculosis cases in district jails, provincial jail administrator Rosalina Malahay said her agency was able to secure funding from the Department of Health (DOH) to put up TB facilities.

Dumaguete City and Bais City will get P200,000 each and the remaining P100,000 will go to Guihulngan City.

With the support of the DOH, Malahay said TB patients in jails will soon be placed in separate treatment room to prevent the spread of the disease.

The construction of the infirmary facilities which Malahay plans to start month will be administered by the BJMP.

Inmates affected with TB will have access to proper treatment and monitoring of their health conditions with this facility.

Meanwhile, Malahay said as a way of reforming the detainees, the BJMP has introduced a therapeutic community modality program provincewide.

“This is a behavioral treatment approach for drug dependent clients to negate their criminal behavior and to become a transformed citizen,” she said.

Malahay also reported during a peace and order council meeting that for 2012, no jailbreak or any untoward incidents occurred in the province.

Malahay also noted that the agency’s significant accomplishment is the turn-over of the new Tanjay district jail funded by the Tanjay City government.
