The late historian Teodoro Agoncillo was named a National Scientist in 1985 for his contributions to Philippine history. Born on Nov. 9, 1912, Agoncillo’s notable works include “The History of the Filipino People,” and “Revolt of the Masses.” He was a member of the National Historical Commission, the former National Historical Commission of the Philippines, where he served until his death on Jan. 14, 1985.
