Telco, Red Cross team up anew for typhoon efforts

SMART Communications and Philippine Red Cross Iloilo have once more joined forces to assist the typhoon victims in Iloilo.

Smart provided communications support to the Red Cross volunteers for their relief and rescue operations in the province.

The Red Cross’ mobile kitchen provided almost 2,000 residents with hot meals in the towns of Barrotac Viejo, Dumangas, Zarraga, Pototan and Passi City.

The Red Cross volunteers also prepared their rescue equipment and paraphernalia.

Around 30 individuals were rescued from flood waters using the Red Cross rubber boat or through rope rescue in the towns of Pototan and Zarraga.

At least 20 municipalities in western and central Visayas were submerged by flood waters following tropical storm Quinta, including the provinces of Capiz, Aklan and Iloilo.

Several towns were in neck-deep waters, preventing rescue and relief teams from reaching the towns.
