COUNCILOR SLAMS SUB-STANDARD TIRES

A Cebu City councilor yesterday complained that he was given low quality car tires by City Hall for his official vehicle.

Councilor Alvin Arcilla raised his complaint in the countil’s regular session, saying the sub-standard tires caused him inconvenience twice last month.

The first time, a month-old car tire exploded while he was visiting the upland barangay of Binaliw. Then on Dec. 29, another tire, which was three weeks old, exploded while he was driving his car in barangay Mabolo.

Arcilla has asked the Government Service Office (GSO) headed by Engr. Rolando Ardosa to explain. A resoluton on the matter was passed yesterday by the City Council./Correspondent Edison A. delos Angeles

BAN ON AMBULANT VENDORS PROPOSED IN MANDAUE

The Mandaue City Council is deliberating on a proposed ordinance that would ban ambulant vendors from city streets.

Councilor Jimmy Lumapas proposed the “Anti-mobile Vending Ordinance of 2013” yesterday.

If approved, the ordinance would ban businesses selling goods using multicabs, tricycles and other moving vehicles in the city.

Lumapas said that because these vendors are very mobile, the city government has a hard time collecting taxes from them.

They also clog parking spaces and cause traffic congestion, he said.

If approved ambulant vendors found violating the ordinance will be fined P3,000 if they pay the fine within 24 hours and P5,000 thereafter./Reporter Jucell Marie P. Cuyos
