Article continues after this advertisementThe Mandaue City Council is deliberating on a proposed ordinance that would ban ambulant vendors from city streets.
Article continues after this advertisementCouncilor Jimmy Lumapas proposed the “Anti-mobile Vending Ordinance of 2013” yesterday.
If approved, the ordinance would ban businesses selling goods using multicabs, tricycles and other moving vehicles in the city.
Lumapas said that because these vendors are very mobile, the city government has a hard time collecting taxes from them.
They also clog parking spaces and cause traffic congestion, he said.
If approved ambulant vendors found violating the ordinance will be fined P3,000 if they pay the fine within 24 hours and P5,000 thereafter./Reporter Jucell Marie P. Cuyos
