‘No inspection, no ride’ policy set for passengers, says LRTA

MANILA, Philippines–Holidays or no holidays, the “no inspection, no ride” policy is strictly implemented in all Light Rail Transit (LRT) stations for the train-riding public’s security, the LRT Authority said in a statement issued on Thursday.

The statement said transporting an average of 750,000 people every day for both Line 1 (Baclaran to Roosevelt) and Line 2 (Santolan to Recto) compels LRTA officials to maintain a constant high alert status all the time.

Over the years, the LRTA’s security guards stationed at various Lines 1 & 2 stations have collected an assortment of deadly weapons, including knives, brass knuckles, guns, industrial explosives, detonation cord, and even blasting caps.

“Please bear with whatever inconvenience that the required security checks at the stations may bring you. This is for everybody’s safety,” said Atty. Hernando Cabrera, LRTA spokesman.

Aside from their annual security training, LRTA security guards are also taught basic courtesy and respect for the passengers even as they strictly enforce the “no inspection, no ride” policy.

All LRTA guards undergo the compulsory regular seminar and refresher courses on bomb, bullet, and weapon detection and identification. Trained and experienced off-duty Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) personnel conduct these seminars.

“The guards are shown various types of guns, explosive devices, and various caliber bullets for visual reference. This enables them to know what particular devices to look for,” Cabrera said.

“The LRTA is doing all it can to ensure the safety of its passengers,” Cabrera said.
