PNP chief names officials to 5 key posts

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) implemented a minor revamp in the 148,000-strong police organization on Wednesday, barely a week after President Benigno Aquino III appointed Director General Alan Purisima as the new PNP chief.

Purisima said the designation of five senior police officials to key posts and other future promotions in the PNP were a “grateful recognition by the PNP leadership of good performance.”

“Those who will support positive change towards genuine police service shall be amply rewarded,” Purisima assured senior PNP officers.

“(I call on) police commanders to lead their respective units in promoting the values of ‘Serbisyong Makatotohanan’ in performing the law enforcement and public safety mission of the PNP,” he added.

In simple rites held at Camp Crame, the PNP chief led the change of command in three directorial staff positions, a national support unit office and a regional police office.

Chief Superintendent Carmelo Valmoria, former director of the Caraga police office, was installed as acting director of the elite PNP Special Action Force.

Valmoria replaced Director Cipriano Querol Jr., Purisima’s mistah (classmate) in Philippine Military Academy Class 1981, who was designated as acting director of the Directorate for Intelligence.

Director Catalino Cuy, former head of the PNP Directorate for Human Resource and Doctrine Development, has been appointed as acting director of the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management.

Chief Supt. Juanito Vaño Jr., former deputy for operations of the National Capital Region Police Office, was named acting chief of the Zamboanga Peninsula police office, replacing Chief Supt. Napoleon Estilles, who was appointed acting director of the Directorate for Plans.
