MANILA, Philippines – A man was hacked to death with what appeared to be a Japanese sword as he was gambling on the street with some men early Monday in Quezon City.

The victim, around 30-35 years old and 5’3″ tall, was only known as “Uyie” in the neighborhood of Barangay Holy Spirit. He was wearing a white jacket, brown short pants, a red ball cap and brown slippers at the time of the attack.

Case investigator PO2 Alvin Quisumbing said the victim was hacked by a male assailant at around 2:30 a.m. Monday at the corner of St. Anthony Street and Nawasa Lane.

A witness recalled seeing Uyie playing “cara y cruz,” a gambling game using coins, with some men when the still unidentified assailant struck him with the sword. The attacker then fled the scene, leaving the victim, who died on the spot moments later.
