DPWH dump truck loses brakes, kills 2, hurts 7

BACOLOD CITY—Two persons were killed while seven others were injured when a government-owned dump truck lost its brakes and went out of control in La Castellana, Negros Occidental past, noon on Wednesday.

PO2 Michael John Lacson, of the La Castellana police, said the dump truck, owned by the Department of Public Works and Highways, was on a downhill road in a village in the town when it went out of control, hitting a motorcycle and throwing off two people who were hitching a ride in the truck.

The two fatalities were identified as Junel Buenafe and Greg Manato, who were riding in the back of the truck, died on the spot.

The driver of the motorcycle that the truck hit and two of its passengers were injured.

The truck driver, identified as Antonio Tilic, was also injured. Three other men who were hitching a ride in the truck also suffered injuries.
