The 195-km Manila-Dagupan railroad line, the first in the country, was opened for operations on Nov. 24, 1892, nearly two decades after King Alfonso XII of Spain issued a decree to come up with a general plan for the establishment of a railway in Luzon.—Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
