Agusan del Sur lawmaker hurt in motorbike accident on SLEX

MANILA, Philippines — An Agusan del Sur representative was injured after she lost control of her motorcycle while traversing the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) near the area of Bicutan, Taguig City, early Sunday.

The Bicutan Highway Patrol Group said in a report that at around 5 a.m., the victim, Agusan del Sur 1st District Rep. Ma. Valentina Plaza, was riding a big motor bike on the northbound lane of SLEX when she lost control of her vehicle and fell on the road.

Responding officers of the traffic patrol group noted that Plaza, who was with a companion onboard another big bike, came from her Muntinlupa residence and was heading towards the Nichols Toll Plaza when her motorcycle hit a part of an uneven road, which was undergoing asphalt reconstruction.

The lawmaker, who was wearing a protective helmet at the time of the accident, sustained minor bruises on her face and was immediately brought by her security escorts to the Makati Medical Center for treatment. One of her bodyguards claimed that Plaza was in a stable condition, as of Sunday, but she still had to undergo some tests to make sure that the accident did not cause internal injuries.

The left steering handle and the left side mirror of her motorcycle, which is already in the custody of the highway patrol group, were damaged.

Plaza’s driving companion told the authorities that the victim did not notice any early-warning sign of the road rehabilitation.
