Talisay police chief faces suspension for admin raps

The Talisay City police chief may be relieved from his post but not because of his failure to arrest Joavan Fernandez, the adopted son of Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez.

Supt. Eddie Recamera is facing suspension after he was found guilty of an adminstrative case filed against him last year by a prosecutor in Danao City where he used to be assigned as police chief, said Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador Jr., Cebu provincial police chief.

Comendador said Recamara has 10 days to file his motion for reconsideration.

“It was just a coincidence that this happened at the same time that Joavan was engaged in another misdemeanor,” Comendador said in Cebuano.

The suspension order was issued by Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo, chief of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7).

Recamera was accused by Danao city Prosecutor Jose Kyamko of fabricating evidence against a detainee suspected of being a drug pusher. He was charged with serious irregularity and conduct unbecoming of an officer.

Comendador, however, said Recamara performed well in Talisay City where the station was awarded the best precinct in Central Visayas due to a low crime rate.

The opposition bloc in the Talisay City Council earlier said Recamera should arrest Joavan or resign for being ineffective.

In Joavan’s latest outburst, he fired several shots at a Shell gasoline station in barangay Bulacao, Talisay City last Sunday dawn after the pump boys ran away in fear to avoid a confrontation with Joavan.

The opposition bloc told Recamara to arrest Joavan or quit from his post.

City Councilor Romeo Villarante, who heads the opposition bloc, said it was embarrassing to the Talisay City police that they were unable to arrest Joavan.
