MANILA, Philippines—Fire gutted a building inside the national headquarters of the Philippine National Police in Quezon City Tuesday morning, a fire official said.

Senior Fire Officer 2 Albert Flores said the fire started at around 10:58 a.m. at the building being used as sleeping quarters by base guards. Thick smoke was seen enveloping the building located near Camp Crame’s Gate 1 along Edsa.

The fire, however, was quickly put under control by fire fighters from within the camp and also by responding firefighters from nearby areas.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire and the damage to property.
