Mandaue to put up 36 security cameras in market

THE Mandaue city government has set aside P1.7 million to buy 36 security cameras for the  new  Mandaue City public market at the reclamation area.

The project still has to undergo public bidding.

The 36 closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) would be placed in strategic areas inside and outside the market to help ensure the safety of consumers and vendors, said market administrator Mosuline Suliva yesterday.

He said this would  help deter crimes in the market and   help police identify perpetrators in incidents of robbery, pickpocketing, pilferage  and other offenses.

“We can immediately stop bad elements this way,” he said.

A consumer assistance desk has been set up near the vegetable section of the market to assist customers especially those who ask for the location of various stalls.

Tricycle and jeepney routes through the market were also opened by the city government to draw more consumers to buy there.

Despite this, some vendors complained of low sales.

However, Fe Ariesgado, president of the Mandaue Vendors Multi-purpose Corp., said that most vendors  were  starting to see more customers and earning
