4 MEN NABBED FOR ILLEGAL GAMBLING
Four men allegedly involved in illegal numbers game were arrested by police in separate anti-gambling operations in Mandaue City last Monday.
Jerry Formentera, 58, was arrested in a shanty in barangay Pagsabungan at 10:30 a.m. Found in the shanty were several tally sheets of ‘Swertres.’
About five hours later, police arrest 56-year-old Eliazar Villariza in barangay Paknaan for possession of illegal gambling paraphernalia.
Seized from Villariza were 15 pieces of tally sheets with numbers combination and a calculator, said police.
Around 7 p.m., police arrested Feliciano Dayon, 60, who yielded illegal gambling paraphernalia, said police.
Article continues after this advertisementIn barangay Opao, police arrested Jestoni Demape, 25, right after he allegedly sold a numbers combination to an asset who acted as customer.
Article continues after this advertisementPolice said the arrests of the four men came after they received reports that they were coordinators of illegal numbers games such as masiao.
In barangay Pagsabungan, a tricycle driver was arrested after he was caught engaging in a coin toss game or hantak.
Police said Vincent Christopher Toling was caught by police playing hantak with fellow tricycle drivers around 9 p.m. last Monday.

TUGBOAT ENGINEER STABBED DEAD
A SECOND engineer of a tugboat was stabbed dead by his co-worker after they argued early morning last Monday in barangay South Poblacion, San Fernando town, southern Cebu.
Teodoro Gawain, 42, died with stab wounds in the neck and chest.
The suspect, Eduardo Abainza, 48, the oiler of OFMT Junel tugboat, was arrested after the incident.
Police said the fatal stabbing happened at the OFMT Junel Tugboat.
Witnesses told police that Gawain was drunk when he confronted Abainza past 5 a.m.
A fistfight ensued between the two men. Co-workers separated the two men.
When they were pacified, Gawain continued challenging Abainza to a fight until the suspect took a knife and attacked the victim.

MAN SHOT, HURT IN TALISAY
A 21-YEAR-OLD man was shot and wounded by two unidentified gunmen in barangay Tabunok, Talisay City, southern Cebu.
Police are still investigating possible motives in the shooting of Victor Bayotlang, resident of Consolacion town, Cebu.
Police said Bayotlan was sitting outside an Internet shop when two men on a motorcycle arrived last Monday night.
Upon seeing the two men, Bayotlang ran inside the shop.
The victim continued to run until he reached the house of Longina Caballero, 45.
Police said Caballero’s husband was surprised when he saw Bayotlang barged inside their house.
The husband boxed Bayotlang.
The assailants who apparently chased the victim arrived and shot the victim in the leg, arm and armpit.
The assailants fled after the attack, while the victim was brought to the Talisay City District Hospital./CORRESPONDENT GABRIEL C. BONJOC
