Politicians told to lie low during the holidays

AN official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) advised politicians to “lie low” during the celebration of All Saints and All Souls Day.

“We appeal to politicians not to use this occasion to campaign in order not to defeat the purpose of the celebration which is to remember the dead,” said Ferdinand Guijilde, a Comelec provincial  officer.

He said  candidates should understand what the events are  about.

“This has something to do with respect. Anyway, the campaign period is still a long way to go. This is a avenue for politicians to manifest self-restraint,” Guijilde said.

But the election officer admitted that a candidate won’t violate any law if they would continue campaigning even on Nov 1 and 2.

“Technically, they would not commit any violation. But they should show voters what sense of propriety is,” Guijilde told Cebu Daily News./Reporter Ador Vincent Mayol
