Voting scheme for teachers serving in polls urged

/ 03:06 PM October 30, 2012

MANILA, Philippines—Partylist Representative Antonio Tinio of the alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) said Tuesday the Commission on Elections has yet to finalize a solution for a voting scheme for teachers serving as Board of Election Inspectors for the upcoming midterm elections next year.

In an interview with Erwin Aguilon of “Dyaryo sa Radyo” over  Radyo Inquirer 990AM, Tinio said they have yet to make another discussion with Comelec chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. on how the teachers might cast their votes under the automated election system, where they are only allowed to vote in areas where they registered.

In previous years under the traditional election process, teachers, he said, were allowed under Comelec rules to make their vote in the precinct they are handling as inspectors.

“As long as rehistrado ang teacher, ang issue lang dito ay paano maa-accommodate ang mga teachers. Ang problem ay ang mga naasign sa lugar na iba sa place of registration nila. So, magkakaroon ulit ng dialogue between us and Comelec (As long as the teachers are registered, the only issue is how they can be accommodated. There’s a problem if they are registered somewhere else. So we will have another dialogue with Comelec officials),” Tinio said.
