USJ-R lifters haul 3 golds
THE LIFTERS of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) made a good account of themselves as they hauled in three gold medals at the conclusion of the Federation of School Sports Associations of the Philippines (FESSAP) 1st National Students Weightlifting Championships last Saturday at the University of Cebu main campus.
Martin Patenio claimed gold in the 69-kilogram (kg) class while Evanphillip Catingub reigned supreme in the 94-kg category. Kelle Kay Rojas, on the other hand, was the lone woman to capture a gold medal for the Cebuanos as she won the 48-kg weight class.
The competition though, was thoroughly dominated by the lifters from the Universidad de Zamboanga, which captured seven gold medals.
Jurland Banaan won in the men’s 62-kg class while Jumar Salcedo also followed suit in the 77-kg category. Wilbert delos Reyes also won the 85-kg event.
On the distaff side, Leah Pajanting won the 53-kg event while Lyann Pineda was untouched innthe 58-kg class.
Dane Agustine won the gold in the 69-kg category while Tarra Canizares dominated the 75-plus kg event.
