Mancio knocks out Calamba in Mandaue boxing card

PHILIPPINE light flyweight champion Jerson Mancio of the ALA Gym made it a very short night for Nikong Calamba in the main event of a fight card held at the Mandaue City Plaza Square recently.

Mancio knocked Calamba out in the first round with three hard hooks to the body.

Calamba was sprawled in Mancio’s corner and referee Tony Pesons reached the count of ten at the 1:02 mark.

Mancio’s title was not at stake for this bout. He improved to 16W-3L-3D, 7 KOs while Calamba dropped to 5W-10L-1D,3 KOs.

In the undercard matches, Jimmy Paypa beat veteran Eric Barcelona by TKO before the start of the ninth round, Reymund Tabogon won by TKO before the start of the fifth round against Lowell Saguisa, Arjan Canillas beat Bonnie Makiling by TKO in the 7th round, Lito Dante beat Gilbert Magos by TKO in the sixth and final round and Bryan Samson won by unanimous decision against Peter Aldrin in a four rounder.

The fight card was presented by ALA Promotions and Cobra Energy Drink.

Among the spectators was WBO light flyweight world champion Donnie Nietes. The fights were supervised by Rolando Mendoza of GAB-Cebu.  /correspondent  Rene Bonsubre Jr
