WORKER PUNCHED

A MANDAUE job order employee is accused of punching another employee inside the Mandaue City Engineering Office (CEO) Compound in Plaridel Street last Thursday night.

Joseph Kenneth Mercado, 48, a regular employee, told police that a drunk Dennis Montero went to the CEO and challenged him to a fight.

When he refused, Montero allegedly suddenly puched Montero in the face. Mercado fled after the incident.

Shot dead

A gunman on a motorcycle shot dead a 16-year-old boy as he was boarding a passenger jeepney in barangay Tungkog, Minglanilla town, Cebu on Wednesday.

Neil Abella of Talisay City died after he was shot in the back.

PO1 Noel Mamale of the Minglanilla Police station said the shooting was a gang-related incident and that the victim was a Crips gang member.

Investigation showed that Abella was about to board a jeepney at past 1 a.m. when three men on a motorcycle arrived. One of the men pulled out a gun and shot Abella.

Witnesses said the suspect was wearing a ball cap and escaped after the shooting on the motorcycle./Correspondent Joy C. Quito.

Talisay attack

A teenager waiting for a trisikad in San Isidro, Talisay City last Wednesday was shot and wounded by a motorcycle-riding assailant.

Reynaldo Yap was hit in the right armpit and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Investigation showed that the victim was waiting for a trisikad when two men on a motorcycle passed by. The motorcycle slowed down and the backrider pulled out a gun and shot the victim. The assailant fled after the shooting.

Security escorts

Some politicians in Central Visayas are asking for police escorts citing the threats they received as the campaign period nears.

Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo, Police Region 7 Office chief, said that these politicians were worried about the possible extortion activities from their rivals.

Garbo refused to name the politicians.

He said the PRO-7 would first assess if the threats were valid.
