SUBIC BAY FREEPORT—A power conservation program initiated by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) last year saved for the government P1.8 million in August.

In a statement, Rani Cruz, SBMA utilities department manager, said significant savings have been observed since July, barely 10 months after the implementation of the agency’s power conservation measures.

“From P6.98 million in July, the power consumption by SBMA departments and offices went down to P5.16 million in August, or a 26-percent reduction,” he said.

He said reduction in consumption in August this year was the biggest savings posted by the agency since it introduced power conservation measures in August 2011, in line with the energy management program of the national government and the SBMA board’s directive to implement controls to manage or institute austerity measures.

An SBMA board resolution in July 2011 asked the agency’s officials and employees to practice conservation measures and ordered that savings from the program be used for training of personnel and other expenses.—Robert Gonzaga
