Errant drivers warned

A new ordinance in Navotas now allows city traffic managers to issue traffic violation tickets to erring motorists should their infraction be caught on the city’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera system.

Ordinance 2011-05 authorizes the City Traffic and Parking Management Office and related agencies of the Navotas City government to issue traffic violation receipts to erring drivers solely on the basis of footage from the city government’s CCTV cameras.

Navotas Mayor John Reynald Tiangco said that the ordinance was crafted to enhance the enforcement of traffic rules.

“Following traffic rules is important to our city to ensure the smooth flow of traffic, especially as we have narrow streets,” Tiangco explained in a recent interview.

He also acknowledged that traffic enforcers might not always be present when violations occur. Nathaniel R. Melican
