‘Nina’ maintains strength, expect rainy weather in metro

MANILA,Philippines–Typhoon Nina maintained its strength as it continued to move west northwest slowly, the state weather bureau said Wednesday.

Nina was too far to affect the country but Metro Manila, Cental Luzon, Bicol region, Calabarzon, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao and Caraga will have occasional light to moderate rains or thunderstorms.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy with brief rainshowers or thunderstorms, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

The storm was last located 910 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan with maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.

Nina was moving at 7 kph.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the north to northwest will prevail over Luzon and Eastern Visayas  and coming from the northwest to west over the rest of the country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough.

Fishing boats and other small vessels are advised not to venture out into the Northern and Eastern seaboard of Luzon.
