GSIS offers P20,000 loan for ‘habagat’ victims in QC

The government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has approved the grant of emergency loans to residents of Quezon City who were affected by last month’s torrential monsoon rains which led to widespread flooding.

Robert G. Vergara, GSIS president and general manager, said in a statement that the move was prompted by an ordinance dated Sept. 6 from the Quezon City government which authorized its civilian employees to apply for calamity loans from state agencies and insurance and lending firms.

The passage of the ordinance was necessary since city officials did not declare a state of calamity in the area, he added.

To qualify for the P20,000 emergency assistance, GSIS members should submit a certification issued by their barangay chair that their place of residence were among those affected by floods, Vergara said.
