Streaking San Beda eyes 4-0 jumpstart

REIGNING champions San Beda Red Lions will try to keep in step with the league-leading San Sebastian Golden Stags even as the Mapua Cardinals try to snap out of their downward spiral in the 87th NCAA basketball tournament today at the Arena in San Juan City.

The Red Lions are toting a 3-0 (win-loss) record, and are currently on an incredible 21-game winning streak dating back to their clean sweep of the competition last year.

They will try to add another victory to their campaign this year and catch up with the Stags, who remain as the other undefeated squad in the tournament with a 4-0 mark.

In San Beda’s way are the Blazers of the St. Benilde, who are coming off a 70-67 upset of the Cardinals in their last game, putting their record at 1-2.

Those same Cardinals will also be plunging back into the action today with the hopes of ending their three-game losing streak.

With a veteran crew led by guard Allan Mangahas, the Cardinals are poised for a breakthrough win against the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, who are also at 1-2.  Correspondent Jonas Panerio
