3 Abu Sayyafs killed, 4 soldiers wounded in Basilan clash
MANILA, Philippines—Three Abu Sayyaf terrorists were killed and four government troops wounded in an encounter in Basilan Tuesday morning, the military said.
Soldiers form the Army’s 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion were conducting security operations when they encountered about 100 members of Abu Sayyaf near sitio (subvillage) Baag, Guiong village, Sumisip town, said Army 1st Infantry Division spokesman Captain Alberto Caber.
The clash lasted for about two hours.
Major General Eugenio Ricardo Rainier Cruz III, commander of the First Infantry Division, directed the unit commander to continue the operations against the Abu Sayyaf Group.
The troops were supported by artillery and air assets, Caber said.
