Cops eyes gun-for-hire in Consolacion attack

Police said a gun-for-hire was responsible for the shootings of a father and son in a Consolacion town public market over the weekend.

According to the police investigation, Lope Demecillo, 35, owner of a market stall, had an argument with another man near the public market in barangay Cansaga, Consolacion town last Friday.

On Saturday night, Demecillo and his 74-year-old father Benjamin were tending to their stall when a lone gunman who wore a full-face helmet arrived and fired at them.

Lope was hit in the left and hips while Benjamin was shot in the right foot. The gunman fled on a Yamaha Mio motorcycle towards barangay Nangka.

Police recovered three empty shells from a .45 pistol at the crime scene.

Meanwhile, in barangay Victoria, San Remigio town northern Cebu, police said they were checking if it was a “local boy” who shot dead a farmer and fisherman last Saturday.

Police said they had three witnesses to the attack and killing of farmer Teodoro Remando, 53,  and fisherman Rolando Dacayana, 49.

A man posing as a courier shot dead the two victims and wounded Saladel Marianita, Dacayana’s partner, and Remando’s grandson, Remando Jr., 17.

The attacker, who wore a full face helmet and a black jacket, fled on a motorcycle after the shooting. Reporter Rhea Ruth V. Rosell
