Vendor killed while trying to break up a brawl

MANILA, Philippines–A fishball vendor was stabbed dead on Sunday night as he was trying to break up a brawl between his boss and four men.

Police identified the victim as Meliton Ranada, a resident of Kaligtasan St., Barangay Holy Spirit in Quezon City. He was rushed to a hospital but died before reaching it, probers said.

Investigation showed that Ranada’s employer, Roey Villafuerte, had earlier engaged four men in a brawl after Villafuerte caught one of the suspects urinating in front of his house at around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Police said Ranada came to the aid of his boss who was outnumbered, but got stabbed by one of the suspects in the stomach. The suspects ran away when they saw Ranada fall to the ground.
