Habagat adventure race returns to Cebu

The Carrera Habagat adventure race returns to Cebu this Nov. 21 to 25 after a three-year absence.

The race, which starts at the Cebu Provincial Capitol grounds, will serve as the highlight of Habagat’s silver anniversary  this year.

Around 30 teams are expected to compete in the race that features different challenges such as kayaking, rapelling, mountain biking, running and swimming.

“We want to bring back the Carrera here in Cebu because this is where it all started,” said Randy Su during last Friday night’s official launching at The Outpost in barangay Lahug, Cebu City. “We also want to showcase Cebu as the next sports tourism capital of the country”

Teams of Mount Everest summiters Pastor Emata and Leo Oracion are among the noted teams joining the race along with teams from Iligan, Surigao, Danao City  and Team Rudy Project.

Because of the fast rising popularity of triathlon and running in Cebu in the past years, Su and his team are expecting to see new talents emerge in the upcoming adventure race.

The previous editions of the Carera were held in Surigao and Albay before it was stopped last 2008.

The Carrera Habagat is described as the toughest outdoor adventure race in the country. Teams, composed of a maximum of 12 members, will have to use their  navigational and technical skills at the outdoors to emerge victorious.

Those interested to join can visit Habagat at SM City Cebu.

Registration fee is pegged at P12,000 but organizers are offering an early bird promo that will only require teams to pay P10,000.
